Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Gwyneth and I am passionate about Upholstery and Lampshade Making. 

I am based in 'Sunny' Dundee, on the east coast of Scotland, and run Studio9 Upholstery from my home Studio.

My upholstery journey began, during lockdown (2021), when I discovered Upholstery Skills sessions being delivered online by internationally renowned Upholsterer and talented Teacher Anthony Devine.

From the very first session I was hooked and I have gone from dabbling in upholstery to having the knowledge, skills and ability to produce quality upholstered items finished to a professional standard.

In addition to upholstery, I am a self-taught lampshade maker and specialise in making traditional hand sewn lampshades.

My passion for creating things with my hands began in childhood and has continued throughout my life. 

As a young girl, I was taught to knit by Granny. My memories are, not so much of what I knitted, but watching many a worn jumper or cardigan being rattled down and the wool rewound ready for the next project. 

In a world where ‘fast fashion’ is having such a detrimental impact on our planet there is a lot to be learned from the ‘make do and mend’ era; not so fast perhaps but so much more satisfying and much kinder to the environment.

I am forever grateful to my Granny for initiating my passion for making and for nurturing my values including kindness, gratitude, determination, patience and sustainability.
